I just moved into an apartment exactly one month ago. The apartment has so many issues that upon my request they are letting me out of my lease. This would be considered a broken lease? In this situation would this look bad in my record as far looking for a new place.?

We don't have the answer for this. This is a question that you would want to ask the managers of the apartment directly. They would be the ones to report it as a broken lease or not. Check with them for sure.

Wow. That sounds like a frustrating situation. Especially with the summer heat. I would physically stop by your leasing office and demand to speak with the manager to find out why this has not been taken care of. An issue like this SHOULD be handled ASAP and usually is by most apartment management companies. Regarding your rights and legal issues for this matter, the best thing would be to give a call to a lawyer or Attorney Generals office and see what can be done. Best of luck!

We are currently in the process of adding a feature that lets visitors update their password. At this point there isn't an option for this unfortunately though. Look for this in the near future. For now, you can contact apartmentspecialist@apartmenthomeliving.com and they should be able to help you change the password on the back end. Thanks!

Go to this website to view ratings from current tenants!

Unfortunetly this is not a ratings site. But if you would like to look at floorplans and photos of the community , please feel free to use our site. You can also email or call the manager and ask for references of residents who currently live there. They can give you a good opinion.
Thanks!

It can be anyone who accepts the responsibility. Remember though..whoever co signs for you...what happens will be reflected on their credit. If you don't pay rent and get evicted than it goes on their record like they, themselves had not paid rent and got evicted. So you will want to make sure you know that you are effecting not only yourself, but someone else as well....

Unfortunately when a community lists with us, they do not provide this information. The best course of action to find your answer would be to use our "Find A Place" tool at the top of the screen, find a few places that you really like in the area you'd like, call or email each one by the contact info we provide and ask if they accept these vouchers. Best of luck!

jeffsplace answered at 6/13/2008 11:22:13 AM
Both of these can be challenging when apartment hunting, but the most important thing to remember is to be honest and upfront about these things when talking to managers. Trust me...they will find out about this in your background check. Another way to better your chances in this situation is to be sure to have references who will speak highly on your behalf regarding your past living situations and rental history. The more references you have, the better things will be....You'll also want to bring with you your past 3 bank bank statements to prove your income. Some communities may require you to pay a larger deposit as well as the first and last month's rent up front. Just bring all your info and be prepared to answer any question and know that you may have to pay a good chunk of money up front.

Hi there Jeff--happy summer. My boyfriend & I are in a nice apartment in Waukegan IL, and the new lease-year has begun as of 5/31/08. We haven't signed the lease yet in the hopes of finding a place with a pool. We're not trying to cheat anyone & we're HONEST people, but does this make it a bit easier if we try to leave our current place for a new one? I will be reading our current lease tonight, but wondered if you could share your opinion. All the best.

All the details should be in your lease, so check it out and talk with your apartment manager before taking any action. Usually, its best to speak with the manager...they won't feel like you are cheating them. Find out what needs to be done. If your lease ended at the end of May, in many cases you would be on a month to month basis with your community until you sign another lease. They should inform you of this status. Also...most communities will require 60 or more days notice of intent to move, so keep that in mind. My best advice is read the lease and talk to the manager. Be honest and clear and they will let you know your best options. Good luck!

My college daughter lives at the Arbors and really likes it. The office staff are not that good, but the apartments are top ranked.
jeffsplace answered at 6/11/2008 10:11:56 AM
Of course. I can offer you a few suggestions in the area, but you can also find these by clicking the "Find A Place" tab at the top of the screen and searching for Results. Then give them a few calls and see what their availability is. One of my buddies used to live there and says that Cornerstone, Rolling Brook, The Pines, and The Arbors are all really great places to check out. Good luck!
